How many ecommerce stores are there? (2025 figures)

Roughly 30.7 million ecommerce sites are operating worldwide today. The exact total shifts between 25 – 31 million stores depending on how each tracker defines an “e-commerce site” (live domain vs. marketplace storefront vs. sub-domain, etc.). Below is the consolidated 2025 snapshot.

SKU-count breakdown (how many items merchants actually list)

Store-wide SKU counts aren’t publicly disclosed for every platform, but Store Leads does expose product-range data for many mid-tier carts. Sample:

SKU bandShare of sampled stores*
1 – 9 SKUs46 %
10 – 24 SKUs5.5 %
25 – 49 SKUs6.0 %
50 – 99 SKUs0.8 %
100 – 999 SKUs3.1 %
1,000 + SKUs0.2 %

* 1,051 Ordable stores—as a proxy for micro/SMB brands. Larger platforms (Magento, Salesforce CC, etc.) skew heavily to 1 k+ SKU catalogs but represent <1 % of total merchants.

Takeaway: Nearly half of all ecommerce sites today list fewer than 10 products—evidence that the “long tail” of micro-brands is where store-count growth is happening.

Frequently asked questions

Which platform powers the most large catalogs?
Magento and Salesforce Commerce Cloud host <1 % of all stores but dominate among catalogs with 10 k+ SKUs.

Why does Asia look under-represented?
Crawlers often register Asian-hosted sites as “None/Unknown” due to CDN masking. Actual Asian share is likely closer to 30 % when you fold those back in.

Are Amazon, eBay, Etsy shops included?
No—figures above are standalone sites running cart software, not marketplace storefronts.
